Automatic Questions

I am not adept at using automatic sink faucets. But I am not alone. Out of the corner of my eye I observe my sink neighbors raising and lowering their soapy hands, zooming and in on or away from the faucet neck, trying like hell to catch the red eye that will release the water. This technology has been with us since the 1980’s and it still fails to perform as intended. Lately, while impatiently struggling to simply rinse my hands, I have been wondering about the wisdom of self-driving cars, reliant as they are on the accuracy of visual sensors.
